Southdowns College

SDC partners with two outreach schools:

  • Madibatlou Middle School in Olifantsfontein
  • Philena Primary School in Olievenhoutbosch

SDC mentors and guides the Southdowns College bursary students.
SDC initiates financial sponsorship programmes to achieve its objectives.

Successful SDC ventures in 2008:

  • With MAKRO’s help, we were able to initiate a holiday feeding scheme for our outreach partner schools to feed 700 families whilst on term breaks.
  • With monthly pledges from Southdowns College parents assisted the Klipgat Sisters of Charity to feed 40 families per month.
  • Installation of jungle gyms, a donation of bikes and games to our outreach partner schools.
  • Donated books to outreach partner schools.
  • Donated and installed grass at Philena Primary School to create a wonderful and much needed playground.
  • Initiated interaction between learners of Southdowns College, and learners from our outreach schools; through visits and participation in various academic and sporting events.
  • Funds donated by parents to assist with seeds and compost to develop Madibatlou Middle School’s vegetable garden. Southdowns College Eco Committee and learners will assist with rehabilitation and development in an eco-friendly, self-sustaining and productive,  low maintenance manner.
