The Izzi Trust’s mission is to provide financially disadvantaged children with the best education our country can offer

We are a children’s charity whose philosophy centres on empowerment through education. Our three main areas of activity are:

  • providing bursaries that enable financially disadvantaged children to attend some of our country’s finest schools

  • running outreach programmes at underprivileged schools and creches
  • encouraging and facilitating environmental, cultural and academic events that bring together children from our country’s many different    economic and social groups

We carry out this work through our three outreach arms:

Pecanwood College

Based at the Hartebeespoort Dam.

Southdowns College

Based in Southdowns, Centurion.

Tyger Valley College

Based in Pretoria East.

Festive spirit
at Re-e-lwele

Our Grade 11’s shared Christmas Joy with their partner outreach school Re-E-Lwele. Yummy Pizza’s and hotdogs were shared among the students and enjoyed in their school hall decorated in Christmas decorations. Each student received a Santa shoe box donated by Pecanwood College students. They had fun on the slippy slide and jumping castles and danced to the music club performing festive Christmas music.

Together we can make
a difference

by Kayla Froneman Grade 9B, Tyger Valley College

""And we did! Together we were only supposed to pack 70 boxes containing 24 packets each, in the end we packed 103 boxes that were able to feed 29,664 people in total. This changed our perspective of volunteering completely, showing us what we are capable of giving back to our community. Yes we were a handful, especially for the teachers, but thanks to them and the volunteers at Springscare church and their motivation, we ended off our day on a good note."

Mandela Fund book collection success

The students of the preparatory school donated hundreds of books for the Mandela Foundation.

Thank you & welcome

As the year draws to an end we bid farewell to Adrian van der Byl our Trustee since 2008. We thank Adrian for his service and support. It is because of his commitment and belief in the work of the Trust, that it has grown into the success it is today. Adrian will continue to support the bursary students he sponsors and assisting with the transportation of food parcels for our feeding scheme.

We are pleased to welcome Portia Malungani as our new Trustee. Portia is Financial Manager of Crawford Schools. Portia has a passion for community work and is excited to assist the Izzi Trust with the work that we do. We look forward to her input and help.

Dream School

Based on the success of the Jamie Oliver’s Dream Schools programme in the United Kingdom, Dream School SA features 15 young learners aged between 15 and 19 who have fallen through the education system for one reason or another and are encouraged to get back in and finish their matric.

Abbotts College has awarded 15 academic bursaries to all the candidates of the Dream School project. The value of their investment is R1.6 million over a three year period (2015-2017). The Izzi Trust are proud to be partnering with Abbotts to raise funds from corporate and private donors to assist with boarding, transport, medical and additional academic costs. If you would like to donate to the project please visit our website www.izzitrust.co.za for more details.
